JD Barnes

VP of Development

Cincinnati

DAY-TO-DAY

JD’s primary role is managing client relationships and overseeing all Core5 projects and pursuits in the region, with a focus on driving revenue and exceeding the company’s business plan.

BACKGROUND

JD earned a BS in Construction Engineering from Purdue University. After spending over a decade as a general contractor in commercial construction, working on projects ranging from higher education and healthcare to the Cincinnati Zoo, JD developed a strong interest in transitioning his expertise to the real estate development side of the industry.

His first Core5 challenge—and success—was developing a 1.1 million-square-foot facility called Bourbon 1 in Louisville, KY. This project was an even greater accomplishment because it took place during the pandemic and was part of the Federal government’s Project Warp Speed —a true baptism by fire into commercial real estate development.

JD’s UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE

“My motivation comes from my upbringing. In my family, sayings like ‘always leave something better than you found it’ and ‘you only get one chance to make a first impression’ shaped my work ethic and approach to life. I’m always striving to be better—for my family.”

OUTSIDE OF THE OFFICE

JD loves traveling, boating, and trail riding ATVs, especially at the family lake house in Lake Cumberland, KY. He’s also a sports enthusiast and a huge fan of the Purdue Boilermakers  In his spare time, JD puts his construction expertise to use on home projects and actively gives back to his community through his HOA organization and volunteer work in the region.
